Part 2 is Saturday/Sunday August 9-10, 2025 9:00am - 3:00pm PT (includes 1 hour of breaks), hybrid, offered online or in person at The Yoga Center, Reno.
The Sonia Sumar Method ® Yoga for Scleroderma & Arthritis (20 hours)

Yoga for Scleroderma and Arthritis is a comprehensive training course in teaching yoga to students of any age with Scleroderma or Arthritis. 18 hours of CEU’s are approved for International Association of Yoga Therapists, Yoga Alliance, and the American Association of Occupational Therapy.
PRE-REQUISITE, at least one of:
200HR Yoga Teacher Training and experience teaching a population with special needs.
Health background (PT, OT, RT, SLP, Nurse, Special Education Teacher) plus consistent personal yoga practice.
CURRICULUM includes:
The symptoms of Scleroderma, how relief is provided by yoga practice, safety issues, demonstration by trainers with participants and volunteers.
The symptoms of Arthritis, how relief is provided by yoga practice, safety issues, demonstration by trainers with participants and volunteers.
Morning practice: participants experience a group class with various options and including students with Scleroderma and Arthritis.
Breathing practices to improve circulation, digestion and sleep.
Yoga poses, breathing practices, and yoga bandhas and kriyas to relieve digestive issues in Scleroderma, safety issues, choosing the right technique for each case, how to teach the practices.
The use of props specific to the hand and wrist concerns of Scleroderma and Arthritis.
Mentored practice teaching with fellow participants: teaching a person with Scleroderma and/or Arthritis.
Mentored practice teaching by participants with volunteers with Scleroderma and/or Arthritis.
Mentored practice teaching with a volunteer, record your class and receive guidance and feedback from trainers. If you do not have a student with scleroderma we will find one for you through our chapter/support group network.
Group discussion: designing the right program for each volunteer.
OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT HOURS
Attend our monthly Second Wednesday Interactive Virtual Yoga Class
Attend our monthly Third Wednesday Wind-down, guided relaxations, meditations, and breathwork.
Attend our sessions at the National Scleroderma Conference in July.
COVID PROTOCOLS
Because our program involves immunosensitive individuals, we require a negative rapid test at our location at the beginning of each in person day, we provide the tests. If you test positive you may join the training online.
